Grey
I was inspired to paint "Grey" as a portrait of a schoolmaster. I met this horse on a trip to one of my instructors facilities after I had an accident jumping one of my young horses. This actual horse, through its age, training and temperment was able to teach children and novice riders how to communicate with horses. A beautiful white grey horse is not born light grey. It is born much darker. As the years go on, the coat lightens until it appears white. In much the same way, as a horse ages and is trained, it becomes more beautiful in abilities and trustworthy in handling. The darkness of unpredictability and unsafeness goes away. I hoped to portray the loveliness of years and how the beauty of age gives hope for future generations.
My love of art and horses collided at a very young age. I do not know which came first but it has settled into my innermost being in a way that has always pressed to come out.
I paint portraits of these creatures expressing their personality and intensity of their character. My obsession while creating these animals can only be expressed within each of my brush strokes. I feel their spirit and disposition as I portray their likenesses.
“Grey" is painted completely in acrylic on canvas.
I am an equestrian and a portrait artist. Through my artwork of horses, both of my passions are blended and that is when I feel the most connected to the soul of God’s most beautiful creature - the horse.
